Anticipate the risks: Watch out for icy patches especially under bridges, near rivers, in shady or humid areas. Reduce your speed and allow longer for your journey. UPDATED 1830 CET – 18th December NEW SAFETY MEASURES It is obligatory from 1st July2008 for all drivers to carry a fluorescent yellow tabard and a warning triangle in their vehicles. The tabard MUST be worn when a vehicle is immobilized by the roadside. The warning triangle MUST be positioned at least 30 metres from the rear of the vehicle. This measure already is effective in numerous European countries. Only the two wheeled vehicles and the bikes are exempt from the equipment. Failure to comply leaves the driver open to an “on-the-spot” fine of 135€. The route through the Fôret des Landes will now be much safer, making the once busy N roads quieter and more enjoyable to drive along, with less HGV's and heavy traffic.
