Situated on the south-eastern egde of the Forest of Landes, on the edge of the spa town of Barbotan Les Thermes and only a lazy 2-hour drive from the Spanish border. This is the heart of Gasconny and the hotel blends into the area quite beautifully.

Now this a hotel we must describe to you in great detail as we fell in love with it one our first vist and have reurned many times since.

You can always expect a warm welcome from Mike & Jean, it's as if they greeting old friends. There are sixteen beautifully decorated rooms, eleven on the first floor, of which ten have balconies. On the ground floor there are five rooms, or rather studio apartments with small courtyards.

Maybe we have been fortunate, as we have always had the same room (Lotus), in a way we have come to rrgard it as our private apartment. This room is on the southeast corner of the first floor and has large shuttered windows facing both south and east. On the southern aspect are French doors that lead onto the communal balcony, what a way to meet new friends for a relaxing pre-dinner drink and convivial conversation. Each room has two chairs and a table on the balcony so it is easy to start a small party.

The rooms are of a good size, very bright and airy, very clean, well-appointed with plenty of storage space, a large built-in wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The decoration, based on a flower theme, is tasteful and contemporary in style and in keeping with the overall décor of the hotel. At what appears to be at first glance a double bed is in fact two large singles, so the room can be made to function as either a twin or double depending on the clients requirements. The separate bathroom with bath, shower, bidet and vanity unit are well appointed and comes with a window of obscured glass, this is a nice touch as you do not have to resort to having the lights on. The toilet, is again, a separate room and again very clean. 

Now, the restaurant, something to behold, with the choice of dining “en-terrasse” or in a beautifully decorated dining room. Mike Lee, a chef extraordinaire, and his assistant, Frederick have this uncanny ability to produce a surprise at every meal, be it a light lunch or a full evening meal, a subtle blend of flavours and spices from around the world combined with regional products – a taste sensation! We, now, never look at the menu, we just wait for the surprise to be presented, although we are told in advance the basis of what to expect, so that we can choose the appropriate wine from the extensive wine list. As an aperitif, you should try the local “Floc de Gascoigne”, this is available as red, white, or rosé, normally chilled and served in a flute glass.

The service is just perfect, with enough attention given to the clients needs yet never over-bearing or obtrusive. The presentation of all dishes is absolutely superb, as will be seen from the photographs below, and it tastes even better than it looks.

In the garden there is a swimming pool and sun terrace with all the necessary facilities.
