Our home is on a headland close to Kerfany Les Pins and overlooking Kerfany Plage where the River Belon and the river Aven flow into the Atlantic, one of the small villages along a 14-kilometre coastline that is indented with narrow wooded estuaries that hide the picturesque fishing ports of Bélon, Brigneau and Merrien. Hence the house name “La Pointe” as the house is the last before you disappear into the bay. This is an exceptional location amongst traditional Breton landscapes where the invigorating Atlantic air mingles with the peacefulness of the countryside. The nearest town, Moëlan Sur Mer is just a ten-minute drive and Pont-Aven is a further ten minutes away.

The house has been extended and we now have a property that provides us with a high level of comfort, privacy and quietness, and with amazing views over the ocean and the estuary from the conservatory. The old barn that was attached to the house has been restored and converted into two extra en-suite bedrooms, making a total of seven thus we will be able to entertain our friends, an indoor heated swimming pool with a Jacuzzi section and contra-currents. A library/office with concertina floor to ceiling doors that lead onto a veranda. In the summer months, with the doors open, our garden becomes part of the house. There is nothing more relaxing than the combination of the sweet smell of fragrant flowers and the sound of the waves breaking on the shore.

In Moëlan Sur Mer you can visit Chapelle St-Philibert et St-Roch which is situated near a 16th century Calvary and alongside the St-Roch fountain. A "Pardon" and "Fête de St-Philibert" (religious procession) (4th Sunday in August). Guided visits to Chapelle St-Philibert et St-Roch, are organized by the local Tourist Information Office, during Easter holidays and from June 15th to September 30th. You should also make time to visit some of the many menhirs (standing stones) that are close to us.

The tiny fishing port of Brigneau, where pleasure craft shelter, and the creeks of Malacheppe, where narrow sandy beaches alternate with rocky coast, are both only a 5 minute walk away. Just a 20-minute drive away the past meets the present in the charming village of Pont-Aven, where Paul Gauguin painted and where you can find numerous art galleries. A short walk leads into the “Bois d'Amour”, wooded gardens, which have long provided inspiration to painters, poets and musicians. On your way to “Bois d'Amour” take a stroll along Promenade Xavier-Grall, beside the Aven and past the mill course and gates, which regulate the water to the mills and old wash-houses scattered each side of the river. Footbridges span the river as it rushes between the Porche-Menu rocks.

The large sandy beach at Trenez and Port Belon are only 2 km from our property, and just around the headland lies the estuary of the River Bélon, home to several tiny fishing ports, which are well known for their oyster beds. Spend an idle afternoon on the quayside, where you can see the fishermen at work or take a guided boat trip along the estuary and around the nearby coastline. The charming town of Quimperlé is close by, with its atmospheric medieval streets and original Romanesque church and apse. A little further afield is the pretty town of Concarneau, with its fortified old city on an irregular rocky island in the bay.

A 20-minute drive across the headland is Le Pouldu, a small port at the mouth of the Laïta River, where you will find Chapelle Notre-Dame-de la-Paix near Grands Sables Beach standing on a grassy knoll. Beside the entrance is a monument to Gauguin. The chapel was saved from ruin by being transported 26 kilometres and being rebuilt here. The bays of the chapel have flame and lily-shaped tracery with stained glass by Manessier and La Moal. Below the timber roof, the rood beam carries a Christ with a red loincloth and a second group depicting a Pietà. On your return to the house go by way of Doëlan, a small fishing port, and take in the view of Île de Groix 18 kilometres to the south-east.
