Marriages made in Breizh
Brittany
……… Arrogantly jutting out to the ocean with its rocky inlets, forests,
rolling hills, ponds and heather-carpeted moors Brittany is truly a
land of legend and romance. A region, which has inspired artists since
the beginning of time, which will provide the prefect setting for your
romantic wedding. Little wonder that a growing number of British
brides-to-be are looking lovingly across the Channel and dreaming of a
fairytale wedding in the Breton countryside. For some it will be
more than a dream. In fact, the appeal of taking those vows here in
Brittany is becoming something of a trend – something Jacquie-Althia and
Jean-Michel are promoting. Such is the success of their cookery
holidays; they extended their home to include five extra en-suite
bedrooms and a bridal suite plus an enormous conservatory dining room
with panoramic views over the estuary. In 2011 they will be able to
offer a complete wedding package, even arranging for the happy occasion
to be conducted in English so everyone feels at home. Jean-Michel
says “These days many brides want to be different and destination
weddings are the latest trend. It is far more exciting to take family
and friends to a foreign country, whilst Caribbean beach weddings are
popular; they are not often practical for a wedding attended by more
than a handful of people. And the packages on offer are not flexible
enough. This is where Brittany triumphs – far enough away to be
individual and appealing, yet close enough for any number of guests to
attend without costing a fortune to get here.” To that end Jean
and Jacquie have arranged a special deal with their good friends at
Brittany Ferries for those using their new wedding service; just tell
them you require a ferry booking and they will ask Brittany Ferries to
provide you with a quotation. Feuneteun Velen, a very large
converted farmhouse set on the southern tip of Brittany, near Möelan-sur
Mer, overlooking the Bay of Biscay and the Aven-Belon estuary, already
renowned for its cookery holidays and excellent cuisine, will in 2011,
host weddings for groups of 20 to 75 people. What helps make it
extra special for such occasions is their unique and beautiful gardens
with a background of natural arcs of mature pine trees and a lighthouse
on the headland, where the blessings will be conducted. “Our
idea at Feuneteun Velen is that the wedding party takes over the whole
place for around four nights and treat it as their own home," says
Jacquie-Althia. "So it's more intimate and relaxing than a hotel,
especially as the wedding can be as formal or informal as the couple
wants." A wedding that lasts longer than the usual few hours also gives guests the chance to get to know each other. "We
are happy to provide a barbecue or garden party the night before the
wedding so that everyone can meet up before the big day. And on the day
after the wedding we will organise a picnic on our deserted beach, just a
five minute walk from the farmhouse." The accommodation at
Feuneteun Velen offers a choice of ten luxurious en suite rooms,
sleeping up to twenty-eight guests. If the wedding party is larger the
remainder of the guests can be accommodated by our good friends at Les
Moulins du Duc, a beautiful hotel just a twenty minute drive. “Jean-Michel
and I will take care of all the arrangements," Jacquie explains.
"Everything from florists and hairdressers to catering and music, and it
doesn't matter whether it's a religious or non-religious service that's
required.” "Never in a million years did we expect to become
wedding planners - and there's a huge amount to do - but we love it. It
will give us great pleasure to help the happy couple have a stress-free,
romantic day they'll never forget" says Jean-Michel Hopefully,
guests will arrive three or four days ahead of the blessing to give
themselves time to explore nearby Breton attractions such as Pont Aven,
Kemperle, the walled town at Konk Kerne and the cathedral at Kemper,
around 45 minutes to an hour from Feuneteun Velen. Your special
day in Brittany, amongst landscapes that seem to have been decorated by
Merlin, will be unforgettable! Your wedding will be surrounded by the
magic and romance only a wedding in Brittany can promise. |
